At the south west corner of a big chunk of land which today is known as Canada, there lies a place that's been home to human civilization for thousands of years. There have been many names to describe this place; today it's known as the City of Vancouver. Regardless of what it's called, the combination of human elements have always defined what this place is about.
So It Is: Vancouver is a book about the people of Vancouver. Built mostly around location portraits, the reader is introduced to 120 different sets of current residents. A short written element accompanies each portrait that gives a taste of who the subjects are and connects them to historically and culturally significant stories.
The idea of creating a book that both introduces current residents of Vancouver and also educates about the city's past and cultural complexities is an idea we had been bouncing around for four years. In February of 2014 we finally kicked off the project with the first of many portraits.
Flash forward to June 2015. A Kickstarter campaign was launched on August 2nd to fund the completion of the book and bring these stories into the public domain.
A limited number of copies have been printed and the book is now for sale at local shops around Vancouver. www.soit.is
