Free Music #3 – The Morning Benders

I came across these guys when a friend showed me their Phil Spector-inspired project (wall of sound, not murder) for their track Excuses.  The concept isn’t new, but it has it’s magic.  And the song is one of the best I’ve heard this year.

Add that to the fact that the lead singer looks a tad like Libertines front man/serial skag fiend Pete Doherty, and you have a recipe for either success or disaster.

The studio version of Excuses is available at the link below, for the princely sum of er, nothing.

Ok, so maybe they’re a bit too clever/alternative for me, but my friends in the know are big fans. And why should my ignorance hold back anyone else?  They’re called Dirty Projectors, and they’ve collaborate with Bjork and David Byrne of Talking Heads fame, so they must be doing something right.  Check them out for free here:

Happy days.

Anyone who’s been through the torture of their better half making them sit through one of the Twilight movies knows that Vampires aren’t cool (note to children of the 80’s – nostalgia for The Lost Boys soundtrack doesn’t count).  Vampire Weekend however are a different story.  Get the first single for their not-yet released album here.

While mockney songstress Lily Allen looks like she’s calling it a day after getting sick of downloaders stealing her music, Scouse rockers The Hot Melts are taking a different approach. Following the lead of Radiohead, The Smashing pumpkins, and The Arctic Monkeys (ok, and hundreds of others), the Liverpool-based foursome are giving away self-titled debut album (for one week only) to anyone with a broadband connection and 30 seconds of their life to spare.

It’s not the kind of album that’s going to change your life, but if you’re bored at work it’ll at least kill a few minutes.
